Netflix’s “Beef” emerged victorious on Sunday night, sweeping all three categories it was nominated for at the 2024 Golden Globes.

Ali Wong and Steven Yeun secured well-deserved trophies for their outstanding performances, contributing to the show’s overall triumph as the best television limited series, anthology series, or motion picture made for television.

The foundation of “Beef” rests on a real-life road rage incident experienced by show creator Lee Sung Jin. In his acceptance speech, Lee expressed gratitude to the driver involved in the incident, stating, “Sir, I hope you honk and yell and inspire others for years to come.”

Ali Wong claimed the show’s initial victory of the night, earning the title of the best female actor in a limited series, anthology series, or motion picture made for television. In her acceptance, Wong acknowledged Lee, Yeun, director Jake Schreier, the cast, and crew for their camaraderie. She also expressed gratitude to her ex-husband Justin Hakuta for his unwavering love and support, emphasizing his role in enabling her to be a working mother.

Next on stage was Steven Yeun, who humorously reflected on his personal narrative of isolation and separateness. He drew laughter from the audience by likening his experience to the plot of “Frozen.”

Notably absent from the proceedings was “Beef” actor David Choe, who faced criticism after the show’s success due to a resurfaced 2014 interview where he discussed a fictional story of sexually assaulting a masseuse. In April of the previous year, Lee, Wong, and Yeun issued a statement addressing the incident as “upsetting and triggering.”

“Beef” shared the spotlight with FX’s “The Bear,” both securing three wins, making them the second-highest-winning television shows. HBO’s highly acclaimed “Succession,” concluding its four-season run in May, led the pack with four wins.
